SuSheila

SuSheila's Teaching Schedule
SuSheila has more than 20 years of financial industry management and consulting experience. She consults with USAID and Chemonics teaching Mortgage Banking Best Practices in International Emerging Markets. She is one of a select group of less than 1,000 professionals who have earned the Master Certified Mortgage Banker designation from the MBA. SuSheila received her BA from the University of Maryland, College Park, just outside of Washington DC. She teachers Mortgage Best Practices internationally for the MBA and serves on the MBA MORPAC committee. SuSheila is recognized as an industry expert in Fraud Prevention, and is an instructor for AllRegs, the industry leader in analysis and interpretation of Federal Regulations and Agency guidelines.
SuSheila has extensive experience working with national financial institutions identifying safety and soundness practices and mitigating institutional risk. Her knowledge of industry trends and evolving regulatory initiatives has facilitated the identification of areas of exposure as well as the successful implementation of comprehensive solutions which resulted in improved performance of financial institutions.
Throughout her career, SuSheila has demonstrated exceptional knowledge of business management practices, operational best practices, marketing plan implementation (both product and channel), risk performance analysis, and sales generation efforts. She possess strategic and analytical skills to evaluate a company with a top down approach, taking into account Sales, Operations, Risk Mitigation, Technology, Accounting, and the targeted customer.
SuSheila is responsible for the financial business strategies vertical for The Monticello Group, www.themonticellogroup.com. Previously, she was Vice President of National Accounts with Triad Guaranty Insurance Corp., where she was responsible for increasing enterprise value of the Triad business relationship. She provided advisory services in creating and launching new products, analyzing risk performance and market segmentation, and vendor contract negotiations. Prior to working at Triad, SuSheila was responsible for creation and development of a new 11 state market area for National Bank of Commerce Correspondent Lending group. While with Provident Bank of Maryland, SuSheila reported to The Office of The Chairman and was responsible for analyzing new strategic business opportunities, identifying the structural strengths and weaknesses, and working with the business managers in executing on the strategies, processes and methodologies to accomplish business objectives. While at Signet Bank, she was part of senior management team responsible for strategic planning and development of 1.7 billion dollar mortgage division of 11.2 billion dollar bank.
SuSheila,
her husband, and their puppies live very close to her parents,
brothers and 11 nieces and nephews in her hometown of Annapolis.

Douglas
Burkhardt
As a Principal with The Monticello Group, Doug focuses
on creating more affordable housing through infill development,
the use of quality modularly constructed homes and innovative
rehabilitation and construction financing programs.
Doug
was appointed the Director of the Office of Smart Growth
for the State of Maryland during Governor Ehrlich’s
Administration. During his tenure, Doug worked with community,
county and municipal government leaders as a Smart Growth
Advocate to encourage well-planned development in targeted
growth areas utilizing sound land-use planning with an
emphasis on public and private development partnerships
and innovative workforce housing solutions.
During
the Ehrlich Administration, Doug served as:
- Director
of Maryland’s Priority Places
Program – a program established to achieve the goals
of State planning policy and local comprehensive plans
for development, economic growth, community revitalization,
and resource conservation.
- Member

- Smart Growth Representative to the Maryland Historical

In 2007,
Doug was appointed to Anne Arundel County Executive John
Leopold’s
Transition Team. He served on the Transportation Land Use
and Environmental Transition Work Group. Doug most recently
served as Chairman of the Anne Arundel County Planning
Advisory Board.
Since
2005, Doug has served as Chairman of The Sharing Foundation,
a non profit charity serving low income working families
of Anne Arundel County. Doug works with the County School
system, the local business community, and State, County,
and City Police Officers to annually help meet the needs
of over 500 children and their families.
